I was remarkably surprised that I managed to hit the nail on the head for 8/10 of the qualifiers from Tuesday night’s semi final. That means I could still better last year’s attempt but that would require a full house from tonight’s second semi. I mean, it’s not impossible but it’s not particularly likely either. So in the spirit of popping my head above the parapet, here goes:
NORWAY – 🇳🇴 | Alexander Rybak – That’s How You Write a Song |
DENMARK – 🇩🇰 | Rasmussen – Higher Ground |
MOLDOVA – 🇲🇩 | DoReDos – My Lucky Day |
NETHERLANDS – 🇳🇱 | Waylon – Outlaw In ‘Em |
AUSTRALIA – 🇦🇺 | Jessica Mauboy – We Got Love |
POLAND – 🇵🇱 | Gromee ft. Lukas Meijer – Light Me Up |
MALTA – 🇲🇹 | Christabelle – Taboo |
HUNGARY – 🇭🇺 | AWS – Vizslat Nyar |
SWEDEN – 🇸🇪 | Benjamin Ingrosso – Dance You Off |
UKRAINE – 🇺🇦 | Melovin – Under The Ladder |
I think it can’t be doubted that this semi final is not to the same overall quality than the one we had on Tuesday. However I would say it’s just as difficult to predict. Much like Tuesday I’ve only got 3 songs which I would consider sure of making it through. Only Norway, Sweden & Ukraine are guaranteed of qualification in my eyes. Hardly surprising to see two of them opening and closing the show. From there it really is a struggle to wade through the remaining options to figure out what the continent will go for.
Thanks to it’s genius staging Moldova is the only other song in the line up that should be fairly safe. The modern feel to the Polish song & their strong diaspora should see them through too. Whilst the Dutch stage show isn’t great the song itself is strong enough to sway the televote. The remaining entries are all dangerously on the bubble. Malta doesn’t have an amazing song but it does have a great performer and fantastic staging. Hungary’s qualification will depend on Europe mobilising it’s metal community and others being able to get on board with the style of AWS. Both Denmark & Australia had weaker performances in the jury final meaning both will have to knock it out the park tonight. If not, countries like Georgia and Romania will be snapping at their heels. But I’ve only been here for 11 days, what do I know!
